Hi Jürgen,
I want to give you some feedback. You can’t see it but I have a big stupid smile on my face…
I have a R1150GS -02. When I first got it in 2012 (took over custody from the previous owner), the boxer engine was very unwilling to do anything really. This was when I learned what the phrase “surging” means. It was like the engine told me: “Please stop trying to make me run, just end this agony and shut me down”.
Since then I have done the following “adjustments” to make it feel happier:
- Added Denso VK22 iridium spark pluggs. A bit better response overall, and less ”surging”.
- Added an Odyssey PC680 battery together with lifting the voltage regulator to about 14.7 Volts. Again it runs a tad better.
- Adding a IAT device, “Accelerator module” I think they call it. Works, until the adoption tables (in the ECU) has more or less nulled this effect out. Gave a thick and smelly exhaust on idle. I have since removed it.
- Rebuilding the TBs and adjusting the TPS to the “Roger 04 RT” recommendation “Zero=250mV”. Quite a big difference, the bike pulls from at least 500RPM earlier, but also wants some 10% more fuel in town traffic. Still the most obvious of my modifications. I think open-loop is a bit on the rich side now. Will have to work a bit more on this one.
I can still feel a tiny bit of “surging” after perhaps 4 minutes of warmup, but barely noticeable.
And so yesterday, I replaced your new R1200 injectors in my bike. Started the beast up to start the sync procedure, and - right of the bat – noticed a steady, smooth and calm idle. Hmmm, promising. The sync itself with my TwinMax, responded better and the whole procedure was easier than usual.
My impression after the first test drive:
- The response to the throttle is both more direct and more smooth – at the same time. A better “feel” to the throttle.
- Down at around 2.500RPM, the engine now feels more flexible, like a “rubber band” effect, it just pulls away, in a very smooth fashion.
- Engine braking is still a too much, but feels a bit less abrupt.
- Less vibrations in the handlebar and in the bike overall.
- Idle is dead on steady.
It feels like the beast is having fun, with me pulling the handle. Wow.
I would like to thank you for this. Well worth every penny. Thank you!
